On this day of holocaust remembrance day, I wish to honor and remember the man who saved my grandfather's life. Without him, I wouldn't be here today. In 1938, Dietrich Bonhoeffer convinced bishop George Bell of Chichester to issue 90 visas to England for Jewish members of the Confession Church. It was mostly given to clergy, many of whom didn't identify as Jews at all, but happened to have a Jewish grandparent and suddenly found themselves persecuted. Young Heinz Pollack, only 25 years old, somehow ended up on the list. He was the youngest one. In 1939 he escaped the claws of death, just before the world war started.
